NUMA:  How did you become a model?
MERSADEZ: I started modelling at a young age. My mom took me to local model searches here and there but I soon realized that most of them were scams and at that time my mom just wanted me to focus on completing my education. I focused on that and graduated college in 2016. I knew that I wouldn’t be pursuing law enforcement as a career because my passion has always been modelling. I grew up watching Tyra Banks on America’s next top model. I’ve been asked plenty of times if I was a model and that I resembled Tyra. It wasn’t until I graduated school and moved back home that I took my modelling career seriously. I started reaching out to a few photographers on Instagram and I was amazed to see how natural I was and how comfortable I felt shooting. The pictures came out amazing. Shortly after I found Columbus editorial society. Joining them was probably one of the best decisions I could have made. It gave me access to photographers, makeup artist, models and designers. The collaborations I did with all of these creatives allowed me to expand my portfolio but that wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to be a signed model that other creatives took seriously because modelling was never just a hobby for me. I decided I was going to pick up and move to Los Angeles. This is where I found Numa Models. I submitted a few images and shortly after I was sitting across from Mariah Tang she made me feel so comfortable and right at home. I’m now developing to be an international model here in Los Angeles. Truly a dream coming to life.

NUMA:  Where do you want to go with modelling?
MERSADEZ: I would love to become a supermodel like my idol Tyra and travel the world. One place I want to visit would be Tokyo. I’m so inspired by their fashion and it would be such an amazing experience. I want to be known internationally for how great of a model I am. Traveling has always been a dream of mine. I would embrace every culture and their designs. At some point, I want to start a daily blog and it would be awesome to be able to share my experiences with everyone following me.

NUMA:  What are some of your favourite exercises?
MERSADEZ: Some of my favourite exercises would have to be sit-ups, running, squats, and dancing. I don’t exercise much. I feel like my metabolism does most of the work but when I do I love to go to a local park with a friend and run.

NUMA: Has modelling influenced your style and where you shop?
MERSADEZ: I feel modelling has most definitely influenced my style. I wasn’t all that into fashion before but now that I see different ways you could wear things I go thrifting. I feel the most awesome vintage clothing pieces are found at thrift stores. I love throwing things together it’s like art. The end result is my masterpiece. Right now I have found I’m leaning more towards alternative fashion. One of my favourite sites to shop on is dolls kill which you will be seeing me in a lot more on my Instagram. I embrace different types of fashion and I definitely feel modelling has opened that love interest

NUMA: What other opportunities has modelling given you?
MERSADEZ: Modeling has opened a lot of doors for me. I never really considered doing music videos but I was approached with the opportunity to be in a Snoop Dogg music video which is anyone’s dream. I have also been asked to participate in fundraisers and things of that nature. My beauty and personality are what people love about me and it makes it easier for me to explore different avenues such as acting. A lot of people don’t know this but Shirley Hemphill is my great aunt. She starred on the hit tv show What’s Happening. I feel it would be awesome to follow in her footsteps in the entertainment industry.
